My Grandma Pearl taught me about feeding birds when I was very young.  She didn't always have bird seed to give them, but I loved to help her put out bread and day old bakery items or cut up fruit, or whatever she had on hand to make sure they didn't go hungry!

She instilled in me a great love and respect for all wildlife.  I didn't realize it at the time, but I was learning to identify and study backyard birds; a very enjoyable hobby I have nurtured to this day!  

My grandfather was a wonderful mentor for my brothers and me as well.  He established a wildlife sanctuary on his property. The rural area where we lived even renamed our road:  Sanctuary Road.  

Helping others to understand the benefits and enjoyment of nurturing our backyard birds extends my grandparents' legacy to me.  I'm sure they would be very pleased to see how far their caring kindness has reached!
